Calm in the midst of terror…..

The title, “Calm in the Midst of Terror…” sets the stage for a poem that explores a chilling paradox. Imagine being adrift in a tiny boat, surrounded by a frenzy of sharks. This poem delves into the experience of someone forced to maintain a facade of calmness amidst heart-pounding terror.

Prepare to be swept away by the vivid imagery and the psychological tension as the poem navigates the delicate dance between fear and survival. You’ll witness the desperation of a lone figure battling for their life in a vast and unforgiving ocean.

I find myself paddling away on a boat in the midst of the sea,
A frenzy of sharks is swimming around a seemingly unflustered me…
Experience has taught me to keep my calm,
These ancient predators can detect minuscule signs of distress, one error will spark the alarm,

It’s a battle of wits known to them and to me,
Therefore harboring a sense of self-preservation, I carry on paddling with artificial glee,
While the sharks encircle me in the calm azure sea,
Their eyes gleam with a predatory spree.

With every stroke, my heart races but I must pretend,
For one slip of fear and it could be the end.
The sun blazes down, masking my unease,
In this vast ocean, a chessboard of fate, there are no guarantees.

I focus on the horizon, a lighthouse of hope, steady and straight,
Navigating the waters of this unpredictable fate.
The dance of survival, a perilous ballet,
In the ocean’s grand stage, I am both prey and the play.

Each wave is a giant, each ripple a whispering crowd,
In the theatre of the sea, I’m under a stormy shroud.
The sharks, shadowy phantoms, glide through the blue,
In this liquid arena, I’m a gladiator battling through.
