The air hangs thick with smoke, the cries of animals pierce the ravaged landscape. Forest fires rage, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake. As the flames lick at the horizon, so too does a harsh truth: humanity, the “deadliest of The Lord’s Creation,” has become the architect of this destruction.
This poem is a lament, a call to action born from the ashes. It confronts the devastating impact of human actions on the environment, particularly the extinction of countless species and the disruption of delicate ecosystems.
Yet, amidst the despair, a flicker of hope remains. The poet envisions a future where humans become responsible stewards, offering solace to the creatures suffering through the fires and working towards a world where all living beings can co-exist in harmony.
Prepare to be challenged, but also to be inspired. This poem delves into the darkness of human behavior, but ultimately illuminates a path towards a brighter future for Earth and all its inhabitants.
Man is the worst of all of The Lord’s Creation,
Responsible for ravaging the planet,
Destruction of habitats, extinction of a zillion species,
All in the name of increasing our numbers, providing varied justifications.
The primary one being religion, all clubbed together under the banner of civilization,
The world belongs to all of Lord’s creatures,
But we humans live with the idea that it is solely ours to enjoy,
All other living beings are treated as items that we can use and dispose off like any other odd toy.
How I wish we could treat all of the Lord’s creation as our own,
Accord all beings with respect and give them their space,
After all, the very same Lord that infused life in us created them,
But we seem to have forgotten this in our never ending rat race.
We have played around with nature, the entire ecosystem is in a mess,
It’s high time we gave up toying with Gaia,
And extended a helping hand to the animals affected by the forest fires,
These poor souls are in mortal distress.
They’re homeless, scared, clueless, famished, parched, and running for their lives,
Leave food and water outside for these innocent creatures,
So that they may eat, drink, rehydrate and gain strength, possibly survive,
Let us remember our duty to all life, not just our own pursuits and leisure.
In this interconnected web of life, we must find our way back,
To living in harmony with all of creation,
For the future of the planet, for the future of all beings,
Let us strive to be the stewards of Earth, guided by compassion and dedication.
