The poem explores the intricate emotions of the human heart, focusing on the themes of betrayal and broken trust, illustrating the profound impact these elements have on relationships and the human condition.
Two versions of this poem follow. The first explores the depths of this emotional landscape with poetic imagery, while the second offers a more straightforward account. I invite you to read both and share your thoughts on which version resonates with you more deeply.

Vows like gilded chains, a fragile art,
Love’s promises, a hollow, empty heart.
In shadows deep where whispered lies reside,
Hope’s fragile flower, withered and died.

No fortress built on shifting, treacherous sands,
These hollow ties, the work of empty hands.
Vows like morning mist, soon lost to day,
Leaving hearts adrift in sorrow’s gray.

A phantom saviour, a mirage of grace,
Cannot erase the darkness on your face.
Your own reflection, a haunting, bitter foe,
Ignites the inferno, a consuming glow.

Your kin’s betrayal, a crimson tide,
Swallows hope, where trust once did abide.
Like Icarus, too close to the sun’s bright glare,
Your dreams descend, lost in despair.

A flock of vultures, circling overhead,
When fortune smiles, their praises are spread.
But when storms gather, they disappear from sight,
Leaving you alone, in the desolate night.

Even the heavens, stained by human guile,
A broken promise, a deceitful smile.
In this world of shadows, where truth is rare,
Only the echoes of despair will dare.

Trust, a delicate bloom, easily swayed,
And human hearts, a labyrinth of shade.
In this world of shadows, where promises bend,
Be cautious, discerning, let wisdom transcend.

AND A SIMPLE VERSION FOLLOWS…..

Vows, like fancy chains, can seem so strong,
But love built on lies won’t last very long.
In darkness and deceit, hope fades away,
Like a flower withered by the end of day.

Promises built on sand can’t hold the tide,
They crumble and fall, leaving nothing inside.
They vanish like mist when the sun shines bright,
Leaving hearts heavy in the lonely night.

False hope is a dream, a trick of the mind,
It can’t chase away the darkness you find.
Your true reflection shows the pain you hold,
A fire burning out of control.

Betrayal hurts deep, like a wound that won’t mend,
Leaving trust shattered, hope at its end.
Like Icarus falling, dreams turn to dust,
Lost and forgotten, filled with disgust.

Those who flatter you when things go well,
Will vanish in trouble, secrets they tell.
Left all alone when the storm starts to brew,
Just echoes of sadness, a world that’s untrue.

Trust is a fragile thing, a delicate flower,
Hearts are a maze, filled with a hidden power.
In a world of shadows, where truth is hard to find,
Be wise and careful, leave doubt behind.
