Loyalty is a delicate bond tested by life’s challenges, prompting us to question our commitment to others based on personal gain and whether we abandon relationships once we no longer need them.
The questions we ask of loyalty often reveal uncomfortable truths about ourselves, our desires, and the fleeting nature of human connection. This poem reflects on these truths, exploring the weight of loyalty when tested by time, circumstance, and change.

Once the storm recedes, an umbrella feels lost,
Discarded beneath a bright, unclouded sky.
Is loyalty like rain, paid at a cost,
Then dries when need and purpose pass by?

Like petals that fall with the fading sun,
Do promises scatter as seasons change?
Is trust a garden, when its work is done,
Left barren, fragile, and out of range?

Do smiles, like roses, bloom in the light,
But wither in shadows when night is near?
Is kindness a garment worn in delight,
Then cast aside when the skies turn clear?

Loyalty, once a beacon through the storm,
Now crumbles like walls weathered by time.
Do hearts still seek the familiar form,
Or drift away, in search of a warmer clime?

When the rain departs, does the hand still hold,
Or does the warmth slip quietly away?
Do we chase comfort when nights grow cold,
Then leave when morning’s first rays play?

What is loyalty, if tethered to gain,
A flame that flickers in fickle air?
Do we abandon what’s lost or plain,
When the weight of devotion becomes too rare?

When hearts are tested, will they endure,
Or break like glass with the smallest strain?
Loyalty lives in what is pure,
To stand through the calm, as well as the rain.

Loyalty is determined by consistent support rather than challenges faced, as it involves a daily choice to stand by each other without expecting anything in return. Loyalty transcends temporary needs and life’s unpredictability; it exists in the strong bonds that endure beyond difficult times.
