Parting….

This poem takes a playful spin on the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet. We find them not in the throes of a dramatic balcony scene, but in the more mundane moment of parting.

Beneath the surface of a seemingly ordinary goodbye, however, lies a simmering tension. Juliet’s public display of affection throws Romeo into a fluster, hinting at deeper emotions they may be hesitant to explore. As Juliet chases after Romeo with his forgotten satchel, the playful pursuit carries a hint of the passionate chase we might expect from these star-crossed lovers.

Will this “new chapter” lead them to a bolder expression of their love, perhaps even a romantic rendezvous on a distant shore? Prepare to be swept away by a fresh take on a timeless love story.

It was early morn, Romeo was forlorn

Juliet was joining friends for a brief sojourn

Lugging her baggage he reluctantly accompanied her to where her carriage awaited

His heart was heavy…. He felt lost…. a deep sense of meloncholy loomed… he watched her with a heart wrenching with the pain of parting, eyes baited

Juliet was on fire as she gazed at Romeo with eyes brimming with love topped up with extra large doses of desire

She planted a parting kiss on Romeo”s cheek who was left in a state of bedazzlement, oh he was in a quagmire

This was alien to him, she had never expressed emotions in a public place

These were acts hereto restricted to a private space

He blushed and scurried off at a rapid pace

Juliet realised his satchel was with her and what followed was a chase

She accosted him on the highway and passed on his bag

He had eyes only for her and like a faithful puppy, his eyes fluttered as if his tail he did wag

I hope that this new chapter shall lead to the discovery of new found emotions, reveal hidden feelings and a lot more

Romeo and Juliet shall find themselves smooching on a desolate, surreal Goan sea shore.

AND A VARIANT FOLLOWS…….

It was early morn, and Romeo was forlorn,
Like a ship lost at sea in a storm.
Juliet was joining friends for a brief sojourn,
Her laughter like sunshine breaking through the dawn.

Lugging her baggage, he reluctantly accompanied her,
To where her carriage awaited, a chariot of dreams.
His heart was heavy, a stone sinking in a river…
He felt lost, a deep sense of melancholy loomed…

He watched her with a heart wrenching with the pain of parting, eyes bated,
As if she were the sun, and he a flower wilting in her absence.
Juliet was on fire, a blazing comet in the night,
As she gazed at Romeo with eyes brimming with love,

Topped up with extra-large doses of desire.
She planted a parting kiss on Romeo’s cheek,
A spark igniting his soul, leaving him in a state of bedazzlement,
Caught in a quagmire of emotions, a deer in the headlights.

This was alien to him, her public display of affection,
Like a secret garden suddenly laid bare.
These were acts hitherto restricted to a private space,
Moments stolen in the moonlight, hidden from the world’s glare.

He blushed and scurried off at a rapid pace,
A rabbit fleeing from the open field into the safety of its burrow.
Juliet realized his satchel was with her, and what followed was a chase,
A dance of destiny on the winding road.

She accosted him on the highway and passed on his bag,
Their hands brushed, a fleeting touch that sent shivers down his spine.
He had eyes only for her, like a faithful puppy,
His eyes fluttered as if his tail he did wag.

I hope that this new chapter shall lead to the discovery of newfound emotions,
Reveal hidden feelings, a treasure trove within.
And a lot more, like a book with pages yet to be written.
Romeo and Juliet shall find themselves smooching on a desolate, surreal Goan seashore,
Their love a lighthouse guiding them through the mists of time.
