Navigating Ungrateful Humanity: Guarding the Heart and Taking a Stand

This poem reflects on the disillusionment from unappreciated kindness in a thankless world, exploring betrayal and the risk of becoming emotionally guarded. Yet, a glimmer of hope remains as the speaker considers balancing self-protection with genuine connections. The imagery of a once vibrant garden now suffocated by selfishness highlights the pain of giving without gratitude while suggesting a potential shift in perspective.

In the garden where gentle hands once sowed seeds,
Kindness now withers, choked by selfish deeds.
Humans, it seems, have lost their way,
Forgetting gratitude in their disarray.

With open arms, you gave and gave,
But in their hearts, only darkness they crave.
No longer do they seek compassion’s pure light,
But take and take, dragging you into night.

Beware, dear heart, of those who come near,
Their false smiles hiding motives unclear.
The hands that grasp at your outstretched grace
Will leave you scarred in this harsh, cold place.

The pain of kindness, sharp and true,
A bitter lesson the world has taught you.
Humans, ungrateful, have lost their soul,
Leaving you to mend a heart with holes.

Guard your heart, lock the gate tight,
Offer help only when the truth is in sight.
Self-preservation is your only friend,
In a world where trust meets a bitter end.

If doubt lingers, let them go to hell,
For in this age, humanity fell.
Sow your seeds with a discerning hand,
In this barren land, take a stand.

The pain of kindness will ebb away,
When self-preservation leads the way.
Help the genuine, let others fall,
For the loss of humanity tolls for all.
