The tender image of a mother and child, a bond as old as time itself, sets the stage for this poem. It delves into the profound connection between parent and offspring, a force woven into the very fabric of nature. Yet, a shadow falls upon this idyllic scene.
We, humans, with our insatiable desires, threaten the delicate balance of the ecosystem. This poem serves as a stark reminder: while love endures, our planet hangs in the balance.
Mama and cub sharing a moment on a tree,
These moments are precious and yes they are free,
The bond between a Mother and Child is eternal and pure,
Mothers have sacrificed everything for their progeny since days of yore,
This is Nature’s law designed for the survival of the species but given man’s incessant lust, will the world survive?
The way things are headed all other species will be wiped out, only humans will survive,
But aren’t all species essential for Nature to thrive?
We poach and we kill, not for food or for survival but for pleasure,
But this pleasure seeking will lead to nought,
Ultimately humanity will have nothing to eat, we will rot,
Even the lowly honeybee is vital for the ecosystem, when will we ever realise?
The undeniable fact is that the Earth has been around for billions of years. We may destroy others and die out but the Earth shall rejuvenate and life shall flourish again but we shall not be part of this world. It is time we asked ourselves whether this avarice is justified.
This is a wakeup call for humanity else we are headed towards extinction. We have done more damage than we can imagine and it is high time we return to Nature and live in harmony with all things natural.
