Deep in the emerald heart of the jungle, a shadow falls over a mighty gorilla. This is no ordinary gloom; it’s a despair born from witnessing the destruction of his world.
In the poem, “The Gentle Gorilla,” we enter the mind of this magnificent creature, where the symphony of nature clashes with the discordant music of human greed.
Prepare to feel the weight of his sorrow and, perhaps, discover a glimmer of hope offered by a most unexpected visitor.
The gentle gorilla was lost in deep contemplation,
His clan was shrinking, lost to man’s infinite lust for land, resources & resulting deforestation,
“Gaia is dying, nature raped, looted & pillaged”, he concluded,
“Man is creation’s arch enemy” his inner voice stated,
This demonic force shall destroy everything in its wake & then self immolate,
Apocalypse is upon us, the result of their satanic greed & hate,
They kill not for food but for sheer pleasure,
Impale, shoot, trap, enslave, skin, behead us, and more,
God only knows for a zillion Godforsaken whimsical reasons & more,
Is there a God, why is He partial to this species that only ravages & hates?
If this be the case, why did he create us in the first place?
A beautiful butterfly spotted the gorilla lost in his world that seethed of depression,
Landed on his finger and said “Hey giant one! Get out of your state of regression.”,
Celebrate life, rise and shine, forget this debate over the existence of that which has, is and shall always be debated,
From the very beginning of creation, we have been attacked & baited,
This is paradise, we but tourists, some are here for short sojourns or extended,
Love, live, enjoy the sunshine, the breeze, the rain, our loved ones, our children as Nature intended.
