Urban Setting Sun…..

Inspired by a painting by the budding artist Miss Diya Tibrewal, this poem welcomes you to the real world where we seem to have lost our sense of empathy in this eternal rat race where everyone dreams of ruling the roost.

The “Urban Setting Sun” is an appeal that requests the reader to sit down, meditate and think whether what is happening is good for humanity.

Are we headed in the right direction? Is this the kind of world we wish to leave for our children and theirs?

What remedial measures should be taken to make the world a better place?

Do share your suggestions, if any.

Welcome to the concrete jungle where hearts are cold as steel,

Sans feelings for the fellow human, a dog eat dog world where no one bleeds or feels,

The never ending battle to do one better is considered to be the mantra for the go-getter,

Emotions have taken a back seat, compassion is rare in this part of the world,

People are hurting, their heads and hearts are bursting but no one seems to give a damn,

The privileged speak about philanthropy; of helping the fellow human,

They host lavish galas, dinners to raise funds for the downtrodden, party all night and return to their magnificent homes; if you ask me its all but a sham,

Even the Urban Setting Sun is bleeding red as it takes leave, moving onto other corners of the globe,

He has hung his head in shame and knows not who to blame,

Humans have lost their humanity,

Seem to have lost their sanity,

Totally engulfed in their own vanity,

What about their hearts?

Are they mere organs?

Biological pumps sustaining the one human body?

Or do they really care?

A penny for your thoughts, if any, please do share.
