The mist folds like dreams upon the hills,
Soft echoes rise where the silence spills.
A boat lies waiting, tethered yet free,
Suspended on waters like an unspoken plea.
The lake hums beneath in a voice so low:
“Come rest awhile where no winds blow.
Though rivers may call, stay in my care,
For freedom is found in moments rare.”
The boat, though moored, begins to sigh,
“I live for the pull of the open sky.
Waves are my wings, and winds my song,
Yet here I wait, though I don’t belong.”
The lake replies with a glimmering face,
“I too know the ache for a different place.
Beneath this calm, I hide my tides,
And mountains stand still, though longing abides.”
The mountains listen from where they stand,
Rooted in stone, unmoving, unmanned.
They watch the boat, the lake, and the mist,
Silent witnesses to dreams that twist.
The sun slips in, through valleys deep,
Turning the waters to gold in their sleep.
The boat rocks gently, caught in a dream,
While the lake breathes slow in the morning’s gleam.
Together they pause, neither lost nor found,
A dance of silence where peace is crowned.
The boat may drift, the lake remain,
But both belong to this moment’s refrain.
This poem highlights the conflict between restlessness and contentment, illustrating the desire to explore versus the necessity of being grounded, while conveying that true freedom can also be achieved through stillness.
Surrendering and cherishing pauses between journeys reveal the beauty of life, as the eternal mountains symbolize constancy amidst change.
The boat, lake, and mountains symbolize that peace is found in balancing opposites, with both drifting and anchored states being valuable. A moment of quiet reveals the often-overlooked peace in being fully present, regardless of location.
