In the heart where rivers meet the sea,
The Sundarbans sang wild and free,
A tapestry of green and gold,
Mangroves ancient, stories told.

But chainsaws hum a mournful tune,
As trees fall under the glaring moon,
Rampant hands of greed and haste,
Turning forests into waste.

Where dense canopies once stood proud,
Echoes of life now cry aloud,
For the Royal Bengal’s mighty roar,
Is heard in these lands no more.

The tiger, sovereign of this realm,
Kept herbivores and men at helm,
Their presence a balance to maintain,
But now their loss brings only pain.

Indiscriminate nets trawl deep,
In waters where secrets ought to sleep,
Overfishing the bounty there,
Leaving empty waters bare.

The tigers fall, their numbers fade,
By human hands their doom is laid,
Each life taken, a guardian lost,
Nature’s balance pays the cost.

A burgeoning tide of human race,
Encroaching on this sacred place,
Their greed insatiable, unconfined,
Leaving devastation in their mind.

Forests stripped and wetlands drained,
Flora and fauna deeply pained,
For human greed destroys the soul,
Of ecosystems once whole.

And cyclones rise with unchecked might,
Without the forests to soften their bite,
Winds howl through the naked land,
A desolate cry, a reprimand.

The storm surge swells, the waters rise,
Under darkened, tumultuous skies,
The mangroves, once a fortress green,
Are but a memory, a distant dream.

Yet hope remains, a spark of light,
In conservation’s tireless fight,
To replant trees, restore the shore,
And bring back life to what it was before.

Protectors rise, their hearts aligned,
To heal the wounds of humankind,
In unity, they work and strive,
To keep the Sundarbans alive.

Measures taken, signs of grace,
Bring new life to this sacred place,
Mangroves flourish, roots hold fast,
A shield against the stormy blast.

Tigers roam their lands once more,
Guardians of the forest floor,
Fish return to waters deep,
In these efforts, promise keeps.

Communities and nature blend,
In harmony, their ways they mend,
Conservation’s gentle hand,
Heals the scars across the land.

Oh, listen well, the world must hear,
The Sundarbans’ call, so stark and clear,
To save the mangroves, cease the fight,
Restore the balance, make it right.

For in the heart where rivers meet the sea,
There lies a fragile harmony,
A tale of life, a sacred bond,
The Sundarbans, our living song.

  1. The Sundarbans Freshwater Swamp Forests are renowned for their rich biodiversity. They serve as a critical habitat for numerous plant and animal species, many of which are endemic to the region. The flora of these forests includes a variety of freshwater-loving trees, shrubs, and aquatic plants that have adapted to the unique hydrological conditions. The faunal diversity is equally impressive, with the presence of several rare and endangered species such as the Bengal tiger, Indian python, and several species of freshwater turtles and fish.

    1. Thank you for your comment. We have already torn apart a large part of these mangroves which are essential for the environment, protect the land from erosion, absorb the impact of storms, cyclones and tsunamis. Man is the most vile of all creatures. Our greed will not be satiated even if we manage to exploit every inch of the planet. It is high time that we understand the price we are already paying for our avarice and stop this rampant destruction of flora and fauna.
