The River of Tears on Tiny Cheeks

“The River of Tears on Tiny Cheeks” is a heartfelt poem that tenderly captures the poignant experience of childhood grief, illuminating the profound emotional pain that children endure from losses often dismissed as trivial by adults. With vivid imagery, it expresses the agony of tears and heartache, while also offering a reassuring glimmer of hope that this sorrow, too, shall eventually fade. The poem beautifully highlights the essential role of love and comfort in such difficult times. Ultimately, it is a compassionate call for a world where every child receives the support they desperately need, ensuring that no child has to journey through their grief alone.

Fists clench, then open, a silent, helpless plea,
A world once held in chubby hands, now shattered, can’t you see?
Fat tears, unchecked rivers, map grief’s salty course,
Down flushed cheeks, a silent storm, a heart out of its source.

Eyes, once pools of boundless trust, now wide with disbelief,
A storm cloud gathers, a tiny brow etched with deepest grief.
No babbled pleas, no whines can mend the broken string,
A toy lost, a love unmet, a world where joy won’t sing.

Small hiccups sob through breathless gasps, a fragile frame in pain,
A world so vast, a heart so small, love’s absence like a stain.
Oh, little one, the weight of woes we cannot understand,
But gentle arms will hold you close, whispers soft across the land.

For tears that fall like summer rain, a promise on the breeze,
That sunshine follows every storm, and hearts find sweet release.
This world may hold a thousand hurts, a million things unknown,
But love, like starlight, ever shines, a beacon to call you home.

But where, oh where, is this safe haven, this refuge we hold dear?
For if a tiny heart can break, with such profound despair,
Let love’s soft whispers turn to roars, a chorus strong and bold,
For every tear, a hand to hold, for every frightened plea.

  1. This is so heartfelt. The lovely rhyming pattern makes it very lyrical and the great use of metaphors incorporates that much needed imagery. Great piece!
